With my old printer OfficeJet 8600 Pro Plus I used HP Advanced Photo Paper. My new printer OfficeJet Pro 9135e HP Advanced Photo Paper is not an option, so I used Other Glossy Inkjet Photo Paper as a selection. Is there any quality difference by not having Advanced Photo Paper selection? What's the best glossy paper to use. Don't want to use the thicker HP Brochure Paper.

@darrel112, Thanks for your response! I totally understand how the more generic paper settings in the OfficeJet Pro 9135e software can be confusing, especially when you’ve been used to selecting HP Advanced Photo Paper in your old printer.
Since your new printer software doesn't list HP Advanced Photo Paper specifically, selecting the closest matching option is key to getting the best print quality. Here’s what I’d recommend trying:
Test different settings – Since all your photo paper is glossy, I’d start with the "HP Photo Papers" option. This is the most general setting designed for HP’s own photo paper and should optimize ink usage accordingly.
Compare with "Other Glossy Inkjet Papers" – If you're not satisfied with the results from the first setting, try printing the same photo using this option and see if there's a noticeable difference in quality.
Use the highest print quality mode – In the printer settings, ensure you’ve selected the best print quality for photo printing.
Check ink drying time – If you notice smudging or ink pooling, try letting the print dry for a little longer before handling it.
A few quick questions to narrow things down:
Have you tried selecting "HP Photo Papers" and compared it with "Other Glossy Inkjet Papers"? If so, did you notice any difference in color vibrancy or sharpness?
What specific issues are you experiencing with the prints—are they too dark, not sharp enough, or do the colors seem off?
Which HP photo paper do you currently have apart from HP Advanced Photo Paper? It might help to match the best setting based on the exact type of paper.
Let me know what you’ve tried so far, and we’ll figure this out together! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!

@darrel112, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding OfficeJet 8600 Pro Plus!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
When transitioning from using HP Advanced Photo Paper with your OfficeJet Pro 8600 to the OfficeJet Pro 9135e, you might have noticed that the paper option for HP Advanced Photo Paper is not listed. Instead, you used the Other Glossy Inkjet Photo Paper as a selection. It's important to understand how this might affect print quality and the best alternatives.
Print Quality Difference
Using Other Glossy Inkjet Photo Paper instead of a dedicated setting for HP Advanced Photo Paper can slightly affect print quality. The printer settings for the specific types of paper have unique profiles that optimize ink distribution, drying time, and color accuracy. While the generic setting can still produce good results, it may not fully utilize the capabilities of HP Advanced Photo Paper, which has its own optimized settings designed to deliver the best quality output.
Recommended Glossy Paper for OfficeJet Pro 9135e
To achieve the best print quality with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e without using thicker HP brochure paper, you can explore these options:
HP Premium Plus Photo Paper (Glossy):
- This paper is designed for producing professional-quality photos with rich colors and high gloss. It works well with HP printers and should be compatible with your OfficeJet Pro 9135e.
HP Everyday Photo Paper (Glossy):
- This is a good all-purpose glossy paper, suitable for printing photos for everyday purposes. While it may not offer the same quality as the Premium Plus option, it provides good results at a more affordable price point.
Other Glossy Inkjet Photo Paper:
- As you mentioned, you can continue using the Other Glossy Inkjet Photo Paper option. Make sure you select high-quality inkjet photo paper from reputable brands that guarantee excellent print results and compatibility with HP printers.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi, Thank you for your reply. I'm still not sure what to do. Using the HP Officejet 9135e regardless what photo paper I use, what do I select in the software settings? For example I use HP Advance Photo paper or HP Premium Photo Paper, what software selection do I choose? The available choices in the software for the 9135e are, HP Photo Papers, Other Glossy inkjet Papers, HP Glossy Brochure or Professional Paper. My Old Printer software named specific HP photo paper to select. The software for the 9135e the selection is more generic, which confuses me, as what do I select in the software before printing. I'm been using HP Advance Photo paper for years. I also have some other HP photo paper here as well, all Glossy. All the photo paper I buy is glossy.

HI, Using my new 9135e I printed a photo with HP Advance Photo Paper using the Other Glossy Inkjet Papers setting and then again using the HP Glossy Brochure or Professional Paper Setting. The Glossy Brochure setting was the best. I also did a comparison of my old 8600 printer and the new 9135e. The 9135e is slightly better.
Thank you.

Hey @darrel112,
Thanks for testing out different settings and sharing your results! I really appreciate the effort you put into comparing your old and new printers—it’s always interesting to see how print quality evolves between models.
It’s great to hear that the HP Glossy Brochure or Professional Paper setting gave you the best results with HP Advanced Photo Paper. While it might seem a little unexpected, sometimes these settings work better because they’re optimized for high-quality glossy finishes.
If you ever try out different HP photo papers—like HP Premium Plus Photo Paper (Glossy)—you might want to experiment again and see if the HP Photo Papers setting works better for that type. Every paper has its own coating and absorption properties, so it’s all about finding the right match!
Glad to hear the OfficeJet Pro 9135e is delivering slightly better prints than your old 8600—always a good sign when upgrading! Let us know if you need any more tips or have any other questions. Happy printing! 😊

Hi, I do have a question I understand that HP Premium Premium Plus Photo Paper is a little thicker than Advance Photo Paper. Is there any other difference besides the thickness? I have some old HP Premium Photo Paper I Purchased many years ago, haven't used it in a long time. I don't think it's the same as your Premium Plus Photo Paper. I believe it was discontinued quite a few years ago.

Hi @darrel112,
Great question! Besides being slightly thicker, HP Premium Plus Photo Paper generally has a more advanced coating for improved color vibrancy and durability. It’s designed for professional-quality prints with a richer finish.
The older HP Premium Photo Paper you have is different from the current Premium Plus version. Over time, HP has updated its coatings and ink absorption properties for better longevity and fade resistance. If you still have some, it’s worth testing it out with your 9135e to see how it compares!
Let me know if you have any other questions—happy to help! 😊
