Hi @Pat-Holc2,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy Photo 7855 is smearing glossy photos, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Step 1: Check Ink Levels
- Make sure that your ink cartridges are not low or empty. Replace any cartridges that are running low.
Step 2: Use the Right Paper
- Ensure you’re using high-quality glossy photo paper recommended by HP for best results. Check that the paper is compatible with your printer.
Step 3: Adjust Print Settings
- Open the Print Dialog: When printing, go to the print settings.
- Select Photo Quality: Choose a higher quality setting (like "Best" or "Photo") to enhance the output.
- Paper Type: Make sure the correct paper type is selected (e.g., "Glossy Photo Paper").
Step 4: Clean the Print Head
- Access HP Smart or Printer Settings: Use the HP Smart app or your printer's control panel.
- Find Maintenance Options: Look for options to clean or align the print heads.
- Run the Clean Print Head Cycle: Follow the prompts to clean the print heads.
Step 5: Allow Photos to Dry
- After printing, allow the photos to dry completely before handling them. Smudging can occur if they are touched too soon.
Step 6: Check for Firmware Updates
- Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or the HP website.
Step 7: Perform a Print Quality Diagnostic
- Print a diagnostic page to check for print quality issues. Follow the instructions in the printer settings to perform this test.
Step 8: Change the Print Orientation
- If smearing occurs on specific edges, try rotating the photo in the print settings or adjusting the layout to see if it makes a difference.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
