HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One Printer

Hello,

I just replaced my black ink cartrigde (A working one), my color cartridges were also almost empty but I didn't replace them yet. I cleaned the printer head and printed the outlining page and this page wasn't the correct one. After I scanned it I cancelled the further procedure. Now my printer doesn't recognize my black inkt cartridge anymore.

What did I do?

- Restarted the printer several times.

- Reset the printer (printer on and pull the power)

- Replace the inktcartridges by a new one.

Untill now nothing really helped.

I hope someone can help me.

Regards, Bas

Hi @Bazzel,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Photosmart 5520 printer and the new black ink cartridge. Several factors can cause this problem. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue.

  • Check the Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the black ink cartridge is installed correctly. Open the printer cover and verify that the cartridge is securely seated in its slot. Also, make sure you've removed any protective tapes or seals from the cartridge.
  • Printer Restart: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix communication or initialization issues. Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check Ink Levels: It's possible that the new black ink cartridge is not detected due to low ink levels or a damaged chip. Check the printer's control panel or the printer software on your computer to see if it shows the ink levels for the black cartridge.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Ink residue or dust may accumulate on the cartridge contacts or the printer's cartridge slot, causing communication problems. Turn off the printer, carefully remove the black cartridge, and clean the metal contacts on both the cartridge and the printer using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water. Make sure they are dry before reinserting the cartridge.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Outdated printer firmware might lead to compatibility issues with new cartridges. Check the HP website for any available firmware updates for your printer model and follow the instructions to update it.
  • Perform a Print Head Cleaning: Your printer's print head may be clogged, preventing the ink from flowing properly. Most printers have a built-in utility for print head cleaning. Check your printer's manual or online support documentation for instructions on how to run a print head cleaning cycle.
  • Try Another Cartridge: If possible, try a different black ink cartridge, preferably one that is compatible with your printer model. It could be that the new cartridge is defective.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
