Purchased a Photosmart 8450 Printer at an estate sale this weekend.  It looked to be in very good shape. It will accept my memory cards and show the pictures on the little screen.  However, it will not print at all.  Completely blank pages.  The printer acts like it is working.  I was not given the setup disc or cable that would connect to my computer. I wouldn't think I would have to set it up again, would I?  The cable has been ordered but I understand that the printer will work without the computer.  Have I just wasted money or is there some little trick to getting it to print?  The ink cartridges are full so I know that is not the issue.

If the printer was unused for a longer period what looks to be in your case ink inside the cartridge dries. The printer acts like it's printing but you get a blank page out. Replace ink cartridges with a new fresh one and the printer will print fine again.

I will do that.  Thank you so much.

Would you answer another question?  Is green, orange and black the only colors needed in this printer? Just seems like a strange combination to me.

The green, orange, and black printer cartridges are just the colors of the plastic cases, not the color of the inks. If you look carefully at their labels, you will see the number of the cartridge, e.g., 99, as well as the colors of the two or three inks in the cartridges. Even one "black" type has grey, etc, for printing photos.
