HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e All-in-One Printer

I have an OfficeJet Pro 8135e that's not quite 2 weeks old; right from the first attempt to print double-sided, the print quality on the even side of the output has been very poor: ghosting is evident from top to bottom. The symptom suggests that the ink on the first side of each leaf is not being given sufficient time to dry before reversing through the duplexer. Any suggestions?

Hi @kb726

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e is experiencing ghosting issues when printing double-sided, likely due to insufficient drying time before the paper reverses through the duplexer.

Here are some steps to improve print quality:

1. Adjust Print Settings

  • Open Printer Preferences in Windows.
  • Select Print Quality and set it to Best.
  • Enable Slow Drying Mode (if available) to allow more time for ink to dry.

2. Use High-Quality Paper

  • Ensure you're using HP-recommended paper designed for duplex printing.
  • Glossy or coated paper may cause ink smudging—try matte or thicker paper.

3. Clean the Printhead

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Navigate to Printer Settings > Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Update Printer Firmware

Let me know if any of these steps help! 😊
