If you had the same result with 2 cartridges that would suggest that possibly the contacts on the cartridge carrier are dirty. Remove the cartridge, unplug the printer and then clean the contacts with a damp cotton swab. Wipe again gently with a dry swab and then wait about ten minutes before restarting the printer and replacing the cartridge.
