Hi @SCWDBR,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer is producing poor print quality, with issues such as dark, smudged print or double images, and cleaning the printheads as per the manual hasn’t resolved the problem, here are several additional troubleshooting steps you can take:
**1. Check Ink Levels
Verify Ink Levels:
- Check the ink levels for each cartridge to ensure they are not low or empty. Low ink levels can cause print quality issues.
Replace Cartridges:
- If the ink levels are low or cartridges are old, replacing them with new, genuine cartridges might resolve the problem.
**2. Print Head Alignment
- Align Print Heads:
Most printers have an option in the settings menu to align the print heads. This process helps ensure that the print heads are properly aligned and can improve print quality.
Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > right-click your printer > Printer Properties > Maintenance tab > Align Print Heads.
macOS: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > select your printer > Options & Supplies > Utility tab > Align Print Heads.
**3. Print Head Cleaning
Perform Print Head Cleaning:
If you haven’t done so already, run the print head cleaning utility from your printer’s settings. This can help clear any clogs that might be causing print quality issues.
Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > right-click your printer > Printer Properties > Maintenance tab > Clean Print Heads.
macOS: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > select your printer > Options & Supplies > Utility tab > Clean Print Heads.
Run a Deep Clean:
- If basic cleaning doesn’t work, some printers offer a “deep clean” option that performs a more thorough cleaning process.
**4. Check Print Settings
- Adjust Print Quality Settings:
Verify the print settings in your printer driver or software. Set the print quality to a higher setting to improve the output.
Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > right-click your printer > Printing Preferences > adjust the print quality settings.
macOS: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > select your printer > Print Quality settings in the print dialog box.
**5. Inspect and Clean Printer Components
Inspect for Obstructions:
- Check for any paper jams or obstructions inside the printer that might affect print quality.
Clean the Print Head Manually:
- If automated cleaning doesn’t work, you can try cleaning the print head manually. Refer to your printer’s manual for specific instructions on how to safely clean the print head.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
