I cannot seem to get my new print cartridges aligned properly.  I have gone through level 3 cleaning and cleaned the gold pins.  The color and alignment is much improved but I am still missing some partial lines in the print job.  My laptop is fairly new and works great.  The HP Envy 5661 printer is getting a little old but still seems to generally work well.

Any advice?

@Fishtootsie, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printer Alignment Issues on HP Envy 5661!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like you've taken several good steps already to address the alignment issues with your HP Envy 5661 printer. Since you've cleaned the print cartridges and the gold pins, here are some additional steps you can take to further improve the alignment and resolve any missing lines in your print jobs:

Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Sometimes, updates can resolve performance issues. You can check for updates on the HP website or through the HP Smart app.

Align Print Cartridges: Use the printer software to align your print cartridges. This process can usually be initiated from the printer's control panel or via the HP software on your computer.

  • From the Printer Control Panel:
    • Go to Setup or Settings.
    • Select Tools or Printer Maintenance.
    • Choose Align Printer.
  • Using HP Software on Your Computer:
    • Open the HP Printer Assistant or HP Smart app.
    • Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Tools.
    • Select Align Cartridges.

Print Quality Diagnostic Page: Print a diagnostic page to see if there are any issues with the print heads. This page will help you identify if specific colors are missing or if patterns are incomplete.

  • Steps to Print Diagnostic Page:
    • Go to Tools or Printer Maintenance in your printer's menu.
    • Select Print Quality Report.

Deep Cleaning: Perform a deep cleaning cycle for the print heads. If the level 3 cleaning did not fully resolve the issue, the printer software might offer a more intensive cleaning option.

Check Ink Levels: Ensure that your ink cartridges are not running low on ink. Replacing low or empty cartridges can sometimes resolve print quality issues.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
