Hi @judiwindle
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code 62.80.13 on an HP printer typically indicates an issue with the printhead or the cartridge assembly. This error code usually means that the printer is unable to recognize the printhead properly, or there is a problem with its connection, which can be a result of dirt, ink build-up, or a hardware malfunction.
Cleaning the printhead with alcohol, as you've mentioned, might help resolve some issues, but it’s also possible that the cleaning method or some internal part could have been affected in the process.
Here are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this error and get your printer working again:
1. Power Cycle the Printer
A simple restart might clear temporary errors and reset the printer's internal processes.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check if the error persists after the reboot.
2. Check and Re-seat the Printhead
Since error code 62.80.13 relates to the printhead, make sure that the printhead is correctly installed and properly seated in its slot.
Remove the Printhead:
- Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
- Gently remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.
- Carefully remove the printhead from the printer.
- Inspect the printhead for any visible damage or blockage.
Clean the Printhead (again, but more carefully):
- Use a lint-free cloth or a paper towel dampened with water (avoid alcohol as it might damage some components).
- Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and the area inside the printer where the printhead sits. Be sure to gently wipe away any ink build-up or debris that might be preventing the printhead from functioning properly.
Reinstall the Printhead:
- Once cleaned, carefully reinstall the printhead back into its slot.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges.
- Close the access door and check if the printer works properly.
3. Check for Ink Cartridge Issues
Sometimes, the error can also be linked to issues with the ink cartridges.
Remove and Reinstall the Ink Cartridges: Remove the ink cartridges, wipe the copper contacts on the cartridges with a clean, lint-free cloth, and reinstall them properly.
Ensure Cartridges Are Not Expired: Check the expiration date of the ink cartridges to ensure they are not past their usable date.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
