Hi @Vijai77

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can understand how puzzling it feels when the black cartridge prints fine during copying but refuses to work when printing from the computer. You’ve already observed the difference between copy and print, which is a very helpful detail.

Let’s go through a set of steps to bring the black cartridge back into use for print jobs.

Check print settings in Windows

  • Open the document you are trying to print.
  • Go to File > Print > Printer Properties.
  • Ensure “Print in grayscale (black and white)” is selected if you want black ink.
  • If it is set to “Color,” the printer may try to use color cartridges instead.

Run a Print Quality Diagnostic

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup or Settings.
  • Select Reports > Print Quality Report.
  • Check if the black cartridge prints correctly on the report.
  • If missing, proceed to cleaning.

Clean the printhead

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle.
  • Print another test page to see if black appears.
  • Repeat up to two more times if necessary.

Align the printhead

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Align Printhead.
  • Follow the on‑screen instructions.
  • This ensures the cartridges are positioned correctly for printing.

Update printer drivers

  • On your Windows PC, go to HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  • Enter your printer model and download the latest drivers.
  • Install and restart the computer.
  • Try printing again.

Check cartridge seating

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the black cartridge and gently reinsert it until it clicks into place.
  • Close the door and try printing a test page.

Use HP App Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Go to Support > Troubleshooting > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Run the scan to automatically detect and repair issues with printing.

You’ve already shown patience by testing copying and printing separately. With these steps, especially cleaning and aligning the printhead along with checking driver settings, you should be able to restore black ink printing from the computer.
