Hello,

Printer: HP Photosmart 7660

I have only one color cartridge (HP 57 Tricolor) and until now I was able to print in both black and color (with the same cartridge).

But for some time now, I've been having a printing problem: my printer only prints in green!!!

When I run "Test Page," I have the Cyan and Yellow stripes, but the Magenta stripe is missing... (Why?)
(It tells me: Color Cartridge is 70% Full)

Otherwise, the printout is fine.

(I even tried selecting only black and white mode) but I still have the same problem....
I also cleaned the cartridge contact points, but the same problem.

Do you have any ideas? Because I'm having a lot of trouble with this problem!! :-0

Thank you very much!

ps: Since my printer is quite old, how can I view the ink levels?
I launched HP Smart, but I can't find the option to view the levels.

@Jpx1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printing Issue on HP Photosmart 7660 - Only Prints in Green!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Photosmart 7660 is experiencing an issue where it only prints in green, which is related to the magenta ink not being dispensed properly from the HP 57 Tricolor cartridge. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try to resolve the issue:

Check Ink Levels and Cartridge Status:

  • Ensure that the HP 57 Tricolor cartridge has enough ink, despite showing 70% full.

Clean the Cartridge:

  • Remove the cartridge from the printer.
  • Gently wipe the cartridge’s contacts with a lint-free cloth.
  • Use distilled water to moisten the cloth if needed.
  • Reinstall the cartridge and try printing again.

Run Cartridge Cleaning Utility:

  • Use the printer software to run a cartridge cleaning cycle. This can often resolve any minor issues with ink flow.
  • You can typically find this utility in the printer’s maintenance section under "Tools" or "Settings".

Print a Test Page:

  • After cleaning, print a test page to check if magenta ink appears.

Check Printhead Health:

  • Follow any embedded web server tools or self-diagnostic tests your printer offers to examine nozzle health.

Replace the Cartridge:

  • If the above steps do not solve the issue, consider replacing the HP 57 Tricolor cartridge with a new one. Sometimes ink clogs or cartridge failures cannot be resolved with cleaning.

Printer Maintenance:

  • Ensure the printer itself is clean and well-maintained. Dust or debris inside the printer can sometimes affect print quality.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks for your information.
I've already cleaned the cartridge, but it didn't help because after printing the test page, I'm still missing the "magenta stripe."

1/ How do I check the printhead status (nozzle status)? It doesn't offer it in the printer menu.
2/ And most importantly: How do I VIEW the INK LEVELS on the Photosmart 7660?
Thanks!
