HP 8610 stopped working with non-HP ink in 07/2024. The message is "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP." This ink cartridge has been working fine until recently.

Hi @SmokinCleotisJ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the HP OfficeJet 8610 has encountered an issue with the non-HP ink cartridges. HP printers are known to have compatibility issues with third-party ink cartridges, which can sometimes cause error messages like the one you're seeing. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the non-HP ink cartridges and reinsert them, ensuring they are seated correctly.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- HP occasionally releases firmware updates that can affect printer compatibility with non-HP cartridges.
- Visit the HP support website and check if there are any available firmware updates for your printer model.
Try Genuine HP Cartridges:
- If you have access to genuine HP ink cartridges, try installing them to see if the printer functions properly. This can help determine if the issue is related to the non-HP cartridges.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
- Sometimes, dirt or residue on the cartridge contacts can cause issues.
- Remove the cartridges and gently clean the contacts on both the cartridges and the printer with a lint-free cloth.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
