Hi @madmilt1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Clean the Printer

During the printing process, it is common for paper, toner, and dust particles to accumulate inside the printer, which may cause print quality issues such as vertical lines.

Steps to clean the inside of your HP Color LaserJet CP1215 printer:

Open the Toolbox:

  • Windows XP: Click Start, click All Programs, click HP, click your product, and then click Toolbox.
  • Windows Vista: On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, click Programs, click HP, click your product, and then click Toolbox.
  • Windows 11: Search for HP Toolbox in the start menu.

Initiate Cleaning Mode:

  • Click Help. A list of troubleshooting and maintenance options will open.
  • Under Cleaning Mode, click Cleaning to begin the cleaning process.
  • The printer will print a single page as part of the cleaning process. Allow the process to complete until the printer returns to its ready state.

2. Check for Toner Cartridge Issues

Issues with the toner cartridge might cause unwanted lines in printouts.

Inspect and, if necessary, replace the toner cartridges:

  1. Remove the toner cartridge from the printer.
  2. Shake the toner cartridge gently to redistribute the toner evenly.
  3. Return the toner cartridge to the printer and close all doors.
  4. Print a test page to check if the issue persists.

3. Calibrate the Printer

Calibration can help resolve print quality issues, including vertical lines.

Steps to calibrate the printer:

  1. Open the HP Toolbox.
  2. Navigate to the Device Settings tab.
  3. Locate the Calibrate option and run the calibration process.

After performing these steps, print another test page to verify if the issue is resolved.

I hope this helps.

I have Windows 11, and there is no  HP Toolbox in the start menu. What do I do now to clean the printer?
