HP 4100 series printer. I’m trying to print on 5x7 labels but it’s printing 2x4. I’ve selected 5x7 paper size but it still prints small. I’m printing from my phone and also tried saving the label as a document & tried sizing to fit page. Still prints tiny! The post office has complained the printing is to is so small their scanners can’t read it.
how can I make it print to fill a 5x7 labels on but?

Hi @TSRa,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing with printing your labels—especially when it’s causing issues at the post office. Let’s figure this out together to ensure your labels print correctly.
- Are you using a specific app to print the labels, such as the HP Smart app or a third-party app?
- Is the original label design/document formatted for 5x7 dimensions, or was it created in a different size?
- Have you tried printing on plain 5x7 paper as a test to confirm if the size issue persists?
Let's try these steps.
Verify Label Document Dimensions:
- Ensure that the document or file you’re printing is designed for 5x7 dimensions.
- If it’s smaller, try resizing it in an app like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or Canva and saving it as a PDF for accurate printing.
Set Paper Size in HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart app on your phone.
- Go to the print settings, select Paper Size, and set it explicitly to 5x7. Confirm that "Scale to Fit" or "Fill Page" is selected to prevent it from printing too small.
Use PDF Scaling Options:
- Save the label as a PDF and use a PDF viewer app to print.
- Ensure the "Fit to Page" or Scaling option is selected, and set it to 100% for proper alignment.
Adjust Printer Tray and Settings:
- Make sure the paper tray is adjusted to fit 5x7 labels properly and that the printer recognizes the paper size.
- From the printer’s settings menu (on the device or app), confirm the tray is set to 5x7 size.
Test from Another Device:
- If the issue persists, try printing from a computer instead of a phone, where more advanced settings (like custom scaling) can be adjusted.
- Go to Printer Preferences in the print dialog and double-check the paper size and scaling settings.
If the problem still isn’t resolved, Reload the 5x7 inch paper into the printer

Next,
Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
Use the HP Smart App > Printer Settings > Advanced
Example - HP Smart - Windows - Home Page / menu > Printer Settings > Advanced
HP_Smart_Win_Main_Menu_5
OR
Use your browser and the printer's IP address
Reference: User Guide > Starting on Page 17
Set the paper size default (likely for the Medium paper?) to the paper size you are using for this job.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
