Product is LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw
Printed pages have smudges. Right side of page had a recurring 1" smudge every couple inches at the edge of the page. Left side of page has a steady 1/4" smudge at the printing margin. I replaced the imaging drum and the right side is now good. I also replaced the toner cartridge and the left side smudge remains. Can the left side smudge be fixed?

Hi @kgmchugh,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already taken some good steps by replacing the imaging drum and toner cartridge. Since the smudge on the left side of the page persists even after replacing these components, the issue might be related to other parts of the printer.
Here are a few things you can try.
Check for Debris or Residue:
- Inspect the printer's interior, particularly near the area where the smudges are appearing, for any toner buildup, paper debris, or other contaminants. Carefully clean the inside of the printer with a dry, lint-free cloth.
Fuser Unit Inspection:
- The fuser unit is responsible for bonding the toner to the paper. If it's dirty or damaged, it could cause smudging. Check if there are any visible signs of toner buildup on the fuser rollers. If you’re comfortable, clean it gently.
Paper Quality:
- Ensure you're using the recommended type and quality of paper. Low-quality or incompatible paper can cause smudging or other print defects.
Moisture Issues:
- If your environment is humid, moisture in the paper can sometimes lead to smudging. Try using fresh, dry paper and see if that helps.
Recalibrate or Reset Printer Settings:
- Sometimes, recalibrating or resetting the printer settings can help resolve persistent print quality issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Alden4: Thanks for helping me. I have found some debris in the printer - some film-like material. I've sent of picture (ignore the two smallest pieces). I don't know where this material is coming from. The only other rollers I see are a horizontal one across the width of the printer that looks like would be in front of the imaging drum and a small one in the center at the bottom that looks like feeds paper into the printer. Both rollers seem fine. If it is the fuser unit (thanks for telling me what this does), what does it look like and can I get to it? Would this be replaceable?
