HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer

My black printer cartridge does not fit properly. It keeps saying "Remove and reinstall the indicated ink cartridge . . ."

I have removed and reinstalled numerous times, but it still indicates the same thing. The last cartridge sent was longer than the previous ones, but it worked for a while. My power went off for 8 days, and when it came back on, this indicator has been saying same since. The cartridge # is supposed to be 63, but the one sent last is 63/302 65/304.

I want you to send me the 603 black cartridge, please. I have been without a printer for more than a month now.

I called and was told the system was being updated, and I would need to call back ina couple of hours.

This is very frustrating to me. I need my printer.

I am an instant ink customer. Thank you. [Personal Information Removed]

Hi @Gentry4,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've been through a lot with this printer cartridge issue. The HP OfficeJet 4650 typically uses HP 63 cartridges, so using a 63/302 65/304 cartridge could be causing compatibility issues. Although it did work initially, sometimes firmware updates or hardware resets can result in such cartridges being no longer accepted.

To resolve this.

  • Confirm Cartridge Compatibility: Make sure you're using the standard HP 63 Black cartridge, specifically labeled for the OfficeJet 4650 model. Cartridges with combined numbers like 63/302 or 65/304 may not be fully compatible, as these are regional cartridges.
  • Reset the Printer: Try unplugging your printer for a full two minutes to reset it completely. Once done, plug it back in and reinstall the cartridge.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes the power outage can lead to buildup or slight misalignment. With the printer off, gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth to ensure there’s a good connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
