Something is drastically wrong with my HP DeskJet 4252e printer. When I refilled my ink cartridge the printer gave me a "Rejected" message. What is the best way to rectify what amounts to a manufacturers defect? Thanks for your help!

Hi @Sammy7447,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP DeskJet 4252e printer is rejecting a refilled ink cartridge, it's likely due to HP's firmware that detects and blocks non-HP or refilled cartridges. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Steps to Resolve Cartridge Rejection
Check Cartridge Compatibility:
- Ensure that the refilled cartridge is compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, refilled cartridges may not be recognized if they are not the exact match.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds and then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Try reinstalling the cartridge again.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the cartridge.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
- Let the contacts dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.
Use Genuine HP Cartridges:
- If possible, try using a genuine HP cartridge to see if the error persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the refilled cartridge itself.
Disable Cartridge Protection:
- If you have enabled cartridge protection, you might be able to disable it through the HP software or printer settings.
- Open the HP software on your computer.
- Go to the settings or preferences menu.
- Look for a section related to cartridge protection and disable it.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. Sometimes, HP releases firmware updates that address compatibility issues.
- Check for updates through the HP Smart app or the HP website.
Perform a Semi-Full Reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
- Release the Power button and plug the power cord back in.
- Turn on the printer and try reinstalling the cartridge.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
