HP Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Printer

I just received a new HP printer and have it set up. My previous printer was an HP as well. I am continuing with the instant ink program. What do I do with the unused ink cartridges for my old printer?  Needless to say the virtual assistant was absolutely worthless!!!

Hi @GrandmaCindy35,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you’re transitioning to a new HP printer while continuing with the HP Instant Ink program, you may have unused ink cartridges from your old printer. Here’s how to handle those cartridges:

**1. Return Unused Ink Cartridges

Check HP’s Return Program:

  • HP offers a recycling program for used and unused ink cartridges. Visit HP’s Ink Cartridge Recycling page to find information on how to return your cartridges.

Locate Prepaid Return Labels:

  • If you have a prepaid return label from HP for your old printer’s cartridges, you can use it to send back the unused cartridges. Check the packaging of your new printer or previous printer’s cartridge box for any return labels or instructions.

Request a Return Kit:

  • If you didn’t receive a return kit, you can request one from HP’s website or contact HP Support for instructions on how to get one.

**2. Dispose of Cartridges Properly

Local Recycling Centers:

  • If you can’t return the cartridges to HP, check with local recycling centers. Many communities have recycling programs for electronics and ink cartridges.

Retail Drop-Off Points:

  • Some office supply stores and electronics retailers offer drop-off points for used ink cartridges. Check if stores like Staples, Office Depot, or Best Buy have recycling programs.

**3. Keep Cartridges for Future Use

Store Properly:

  • If you prefer to keep the unused cartridges for future use (e.g., for another printer or as spares), make sure to store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Check Compatibility:

  • Ensure the cartridges are compatible with any future printers you might use. Sometimes cartridges are specific to particular printer models.

**4. Update HP Instant Ink Program

Update Printer Information:

  • Log into your HP Instant Ink account and update the printer information to reflect your new printer model. This ensures that your new printer is correctly associated with your Instant Ink plan.

Order New Cartridges:

  • Your new printer will automatically receive cartridges according to your Instant Ink plan. Ensure your account is updated to avoid interruptions in service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
