@JFCIV, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP printer displays a "cartridge damaged" error message, it indicates that one or more of your ink cartridges may be defective or not properly installed. Follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve this error:

Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Remove the cartridges.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back in.
  6. Wai for few minutes and then insert the cartridges (let printer prompt for cartridges)
  7. Turn on the printer

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Ensure the printer is turned off and unplugged.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the affected cartridge.
  • Using a lint-free cloth and distilled water, gently clean the cartridge contacts. Avoid using alcohol as it might damage the contacts.
  • After cleaning, reinsert the cartridge into its stall securely.
  • Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and check if the error message persists.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only):

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Also, refer to this guide: HP ink cartridge issues including, incompatible, missing and not recognized errors | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
