I have a "printer failure" error message after replacing the empty ink cartridge.  I've tried unplugging, resetting memory and reinstalling ink old and then again the new ink cartridges and still the error persists.  2 of the 4 ink cartridges are HP originals and the other 2 are after market and still have ink. What should I do?

Your Print head is clogged this can sometimes happen when the ink is depleted completely. Don't let the ink run out completely. You will either have to clean the print head with a cleaning kit or replace the printhead with a new one, which is what I ended up doing when this happened to my 8600 Pro two months ago.
