My printer ink was low on both black and color ink.  I tried to only replace the black ink cartridge, however it's still telling me there is no ink.  Do I have to replace all the color and all the black at the same time so it work?  Or can the color be completely depleted and replacing only the black with work.  I purchased brand new HP ink.

HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw

We replaced the black cartridge with a genuine HP cartridge. It is showing the old black ink serial number and it says it is low on ink. We can print out fine, it just isn't registering the new cartridge and showing up the true ink level.

Hi @RoyRhea,

Thank you for the response.

Try these steps:

Turn Off and On the Printer:

  • Power off your printer and then turn it back on. Sometimes, simply restarting the printer can resolve the issue.

Proper Installation of Ink Cartridge:

  • Make sure the black ink cartridge is properly installed.
  • Open the ink cartridge access door, remove the black cartridge by pushing it in slightly to release it, and then pull it out.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly into the correct slot and ensure it clicks into place.

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Verify that the cartridge is compatible with your printer model. Use only original HP ink cartridges to ensure compatibility.

Inspect Cartridge for Damage:

  • Check if the cartridge is damaged or leaking. If it is, replace it with a new one.
  • Inspect the contacts on the cartridge and printer for dirt or debris and clean them carefully with a lint-free cloth.

Replace Color Ink Cartridges:

  • Although it’s not necessary to replace all cartridges simultaneously, having one or more depleted color cartridges may sometimes cause recognition issues. Consider replacing color cartridges if the problem persists.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause recognition problems. Check HP Support for the latest firmware updates.

I hope this helps.
