I have an HP Envy 4520 wireless all in one printer. I have had it several years with no problems. I have used instant ink for a couple of years.
I got an error message about incompatible ink cartridge a few days ago. I tried several things to fix it. Took out and reinstalled, tried older cartridge, used a new black one from instant ink (I do not have a new color one), used a new black one I had purchased.
Then I started getting messages to clear paper jam and check ink cartridges. The menu will only stay up a second when I try to call it up on the printer.
There is not a paper jam. I have taken the part out to clear it, turned it off and back on, unplugged printer and replugged. The message keeps coming back up.
Any suggestions?

1. Fix Incompatible Ink Cartridge Error
This can happen even with genuine Instant Ink cartridges due to:
- Firmware issues
- Dirty contacts
- Cartridge authentication failure
Try this:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove all cartridges.
- Clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.
- Reinstall cartridges and power on.
- If using Instant Ink, make sure your subscription is active.

2. Fix False Paper Jam Error
Even if there’s no jam, sensors may be misreading due to:
- Tiny paper fragments
- Misaligned rollers
- Firmware glitches
Try this:
- Remove all paper and open the rear access door.
- Check for any tiny scraps or dust.
- Clean rollers gently with a damp cloth.
- Power cycle the printer (unplug for 60 seconds, then restart).

3. Menu Disappears Quickly
This may be caused by:
- Firmware corruption
- Power supply instability
Try a semi-full reset:
- Unplug the printer while it’s on.
- Hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and power on.
If the issue persists, a firmware update or factory reset may be needed.
