Hi @MPC88,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When an HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 blocks due to non-HP ink, it is often because HP printers are equipped with "Dynamic Security" that detects non-HP cartridges and can prevent their use. Here's how you can try to resolve the issue.
Steps to Unblock the Printer:
Check for Firmware Updates: HP occasionally releases firmware updates designed to block non-HP ink. If the printer automatically updated, the non-HP ink may no longer be accepted.
- Check the printer's firmware version: On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
- If an update is available, you can choose to install it. However, if you want to avoid further blocks, disable automatic firmware updates after this process by going to the settings menu and turning off the update feature.
Downgrade Firmware:
- If your printer was working with non-HP cartridges before the recent block, you may need to downgrade to an earlier firmware version. Visit HP's website for older firmware, or look for a trusted source to download the previous version compatible with your model.
Reset the Printer: Perform a basic reset:
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
- Wait about 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.
Use HP Approved Ink: If possible, replace the non-HP cartridges with genuine HP ink to unblock the printer. Once the printer is functional again, you can decide whether to try alternatives in the future or continue using HP cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
