After changing the Ink cartridges,  the printer keeps showing C & M cartridges depleted, but these two ink cartridges are HP original and full.  I cleaned the contact points for C & M in the Ink cartridges holder,  It managed to show full Ink tank,  but then after I pressed printing,  the C & M depleted sign came back again.

Please advise the next step.   Should I continue to clean the Ink cartridge holder contacts points, or change the Ink Cartridge holder, or change the printer?  Thanks.

Best regards,

Hi @Des121,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for clarifying the situation, and sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with the printer! Here’s what you can do next:

Recommended Steps

  1. Double-check Cartridge Compatibility
Make sure the Cyan and Magenta cartridges are the exact model recommended for your printer. Even genuine HP cartridges can cause issues if they’re not the right type.

  2. Clean Contacts Again (But Carefully)
    • Power off and unplug the printer.
    • Remove the cartridges and gently clean the gold contacts on both the cartridges and inside the carriage using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
    • Let them dry completely before reinstalling.

  3. Perform a Hard Reset
    • Unplug the printer for at least 60 seconds.
    • Plug it back in and turn it on. This clears temporary memory errors.

  4. Update Firmware
Go to Official HP® Support → enter your printer model → download the latest firmware. Firmware updates often fix false “depleted” errors.

  5. Run Printhead Cleaning & Alignment
Use the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app to run these maintenance tasks.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
