HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer replaced ink cartridges with new 951 cartridges and it gives a Printer or ink system error. How do I get replacement cartridges since these are brand new and don't work.

@JJHDE, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

If you have installed new 951 ink cartridges in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 and are receiving a printer or ink system error message, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Reset the Printer:

    • Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
    • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the power source.
    • Wait for 60 seconds before reconnecting the power cord to a wall outlet and the printer.
    • Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.
  2. Ensure Genuine HP Cartridges:

    • Make sure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. HP does not guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges.
    • If you are unsure about the authenticity, visit the HP Anti Counterfeiting and Fraud Program website.
    • Open the cartridge access door by placing your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer.
    • Wait until the printer carriage is idle, then push the cartridge to release it and remove it from its slot.
    • Check the contacts of the cartridge for any debris or damage, and reinstall the cartridge firmly into the correct color-coded slot.

      Reinsert the Cartridges:

  3. Update the Printer Firmware:

    • Ensure the printer is connected to a wired or wireless network with an active Internet connection.
    • On the printer control panel, access the ePrint icon, go to Settings, and select Printer Update. Check for updates and install if available.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
