Hi @ajb585,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing cartridge errors with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium e-All-in-One printer. Cartridge errors can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can try to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.

Check for Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with your printer model. HP printers often require specific cartridge types, and using the wrong ones can lead to errors.

Inspect the Cartridges: Examine the cartridges closely to make sure there are no visible defects or damage. Remove any protective tape or packaging that might still be on the cartridges.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, dirt or residue can accumulate on the cartridge contacts or printer's contacts. Gently clean both the cartridge and printer contacts with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab dampened with distilled water. Allow them to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

Reset the Printer: Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and wait for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn on the printer. This can sometimes clear temporary errors.

Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve compatibility issues and errors.

Inspect for Obstructions: Make sure there are no foreign objects or paper jams in the printer that might be obstructing the cartridge carriage or preventing proper cartridge installation.

Perform a Hard Reset: If none of the above steps work, you can try performing a hard reset on your printer. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord.
  • Turn the printer back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
