Inkjet pro 8625, Error message the one or more print cartridges appear to be damaged and should be replaced.
Have inserted new smart ink cartridges (which I've been using for more than 2 years without problems) and continue to get this message.
I have cycled the printer on and off multiple times including disconnecting power source.

Hi @epbobcat70,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already tried some good troubleshooting steps. Here are a few additional suggestions to resolve the "one or more print cartridges appear to be damaged" error.
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridges are correctly installed. Remove them and reinsert them, making sure they click into place.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: The contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer might be dirty. Gently clean them with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
- Inspect Cartridges for Damage: Check the cartridges for any visible damage or leaks. Even if the cartridges are new, they might have been damaged during shipping or handling.
- Update Printer Firmware: Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve issues with cartridge recognition. Check HP’s website for any available updates for your printer model.
- Perform a Printer Reset: Try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This can sometimes clear persistent error messages.
- Try Genuine HP Cartridges: If the issue persists, test with genuine HP cartridges to rule out compatibility issues with the smart ink cartridges you’re using.
- Check for Software Updates: Ensure that your printer's software or drivers are up to date on your computer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Alden thanks for your e-mail.
Given that the printer had been working without problem when the issue started instead of changing printer drivers, updating firmware or re-setting the printer, I elected to replace the printhead. I used the cartridges supplied with the PH and the function of the printer is restored.
Additional reasoning: the problem started when I inserted a new yellow cartridge. When inserting there was a slightly greater than normal degree of resistance followed by a "click". Eventhough there was not any apparent damage to either that cartridge or the printhead and a new cartridge did not resolve it seemed reasonable the the printhead was somehow damaged.
