HP ENVY 5010 All-in-One Printer

Printer wont work, I get the message the cartridges are not communicating with printer. I called up to report the problem and was sent some new ink cartridges, I've inserted the new ink cartridges and I'm still getting the same problem

When you encounter an issue where your HP ENVY 5010 printer cartridges are not communicating with the printer, it can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this problem. Here's a step-by-step guide.

 

Check for Proper Installation:

  • Ensure that the cartridges are correctly installed in their respective slots. Make sure they are securely seated.

 

Check for Protective Tape:

  • Sometimes, new cartridges have a protective tape or plastic cover that needs to be removed before installation. Ensure that all protective materials have been removed from the cartridges.

 

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the cartridges.
  • Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges using a lint-free cloth or coffee filter.
  • Also, clean the contacts inside the printer where the cartridges make contact.
  • Reinstall the cartridges.

 

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve communication issues. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about a minute. Then, plug it back in and turn it on.

 

Update Printer Firmware/Software:

  • Check if there are any available firmware or software updates for your printer on the HP website. Updating the printer's software can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.

 

Replace Faulty Cartridges:

  • If you have multiple cartridges, try replacing them one at a time to identify if a particular cartridge is causing the issue. Sometimes, one faulty cartridge can disrupt communication.

 

Check for Error Messages:

  • Look for any error messages or warnings on the printer's control panel or on your computer. These messages can provide clues about what might be wrong.

 

Check Ink Levels:

  • Ensure that the cartridges have sufficient ink. Low ink levels can sometimes cause communication problems.

 

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • A hard reset can help resolve various printer issues. To do this, turn off the printer, disconnect all cables, including the power cord, and hold the power button down for 20-30 seconds. Then, reconnect everything and turn the printer back on.
