HP 3830 printer. Have installed HP 63 cartridges. Getting a message that the cartridges are not intended for use in this printer. HP 63 is the designated cartridge for the 3830. Please advise.

@Dave13131, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Cartridge Installation

Power off the printer and remove both the HP 63 cartridges from the printer.

Inspect the cartridges for any damage, debris, or protective tape that may still be on the contacts. The tape is usually orange and should be removed before installing the cartridges.

Reinstall the cartridges, making sure they are seated properly in their respective slots (black in the right slot and color in the left slot).

Reset the Printer

Turn off the printer.

Unplug the printer from the power outlet.

Wait about 60 seconds and then plug it back in.

Turn the printer back on and see if the error persists.

Clean Cartridge Contacts

Open the printer and carefully remove the cartridges.

Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge as well as the contact area inside the printer.

Allow everything to dry fully before reinstalling the cartridges.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
