I purchased a 55A printer cartridge, but when I took it off the shelf today to replace the cartridge in my printer, I realized I actually need a 55X cartridge. How can I return the incorrect cartridge? Please advise.

Hi @fstearns,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

We understand you've purchased an HP 55A toner cartridge, but after opening your supplies, you realized your printer requires an HP 55X toner cartridge instead. It's an easy mistake to make, as both cartridges belong to the same toner family but differ in page yield.

Return Options for an HP 55A Toner Cartridge

Your return options depend on where the cartridge was purchased:

If You Purchased Directly from the HP Store

If the HP 55A cartridge is unopened and within the applicable return period, you may be eligible to return or exchange it for the correct cartridge.

You can review HP's return policy and begin the return process here:

HP Store Returns:
https://www.hp.com/in-en/shop/returns

If You Purchased from a Third-Party Retailer

If the cartridge was purchased from another retailer, reseller, or online marketplace, the return or exchange will be subject to that seller's return policy. HP is unable to process returns for products purchased through third-party vendors.

If the cartridge is eligible for return under the seller's policy, you should be able to exchange it for the HP 55X toner cartridge, which is compatible with your printer and provides a higher page yield than the HP 55A.

Have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
