Hi @RO781,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I am sure faded printouts can be frustating at times. Not to worry, let us work together and get this sorted.
If the quality of a printed document is not as expected.
Print a cleaning page to resolve print quality issues.
On the Home screen of the printer control panel, swipe left on the display, and then touch the Setup menu.
Touch Service, and then touch Cleaning Page.
When prompted, load plain white paper into the input tray.
Touch OK to being the cleaning process.
If the issue persists, then perform the tasks given in the link in the order given.
Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.

I've done all these things and no change. I tried:
1. Different paper
2. Different paper settings/types from the HP 'smart' app. Which doesn't really let me adjust much, if anything.
3. Cleaning Page.
4. Turning it off and unplugging.
5. New toner.
With the exception of the toner, I've tried these and some other steps multiple times with no change.
