I have had an E0 error message appear on my previous deskjet 2710 printer which I couldn't get rid off. I presumed it was an issue with the printer and bought a new deskjet 2810e printer. I am getting the same E0 error message even after changing the colour cartridge twice with genuine HP cartridges.

Why is this?

Hi @GAD45 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the E0 error message on your HP DeskJet 2810e, as well as on your previous DeskJet 2710, typically points to a problem with the ink cartridges or their communication with the printer. Since you've already tried replacing the color cartridge with genuine HP ones and still see the error, here are some additional troubleshooting steps to resolve it:

1. Check for Protective Tape

Ensure that there is no protective tape or plastic film on the new ink cartridges. Sometimes, even new cartridges can have this protective tape that needs to be removed before installation.

2. Check Cartridge Installation

Make sure the cartridges are properly installed and seated in their respective slots. Sometimes, an improperly installed cartridge can cause an error.

3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

The contacts on both the ink cartridges and the printer's cartridge bay could have some residue or dirt that disrupts the communication. Try gently cleaning the copper contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab dipped in water or rubbing alcohol.

4. Reset the Printer

Perform a hard reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it from the power source for about 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in and turning it on. This can sometimes clear out error messages.

5. Reinstall the Printer Software

Uninstall the printer drivers and software from your computer and reinstall the latest version from the HP website. This can help fix any software-related issues that might be causing the error.

6. Try Using the Printer Without the Color Cartridge

To check if the color cartridge is causing the issue, try printing with only the black cartridge installed, if your printer supports single-cartridge mode. This can help identify whether the issue is with the color cartridge specifically.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
