HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

HI all, my low mileage 8600plus printer started up today and tried to boot up but showed 'Printer Failure' error on the screen. The reboots changed nothing. Any thoughts aside from recycling it?

Hi @houseofcharm,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Printer Failure" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can try before considering recycling it. Here are some troubleshooting steps.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect it to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open all the access doors and check for any paper jams or obstructions inside the printer. Remove any stuck paper carefully.

Check the Printhead:

  • If you can access the printhead, try removing and then reseating it. Make sure it is properly aligned and securely installed.
  • Sometimes, cleaning the printhead contacts with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water can help.

Update the Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can download the latest firmware from the HP support website and follow the instructions to update it.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes performing a partial reset can resolve the issue. Here’s how you can do it:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Press and hold the "Help" and "OK" buttons on the control panel.
    • While holding these buttons, turn the printer back on.
    • Release the buttons when the printer starts.

Check Power Supply:

  • Ensure that the power supply is working correctly. Try connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet, bypassing any power strips or surge protectors.

Run Printer Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a free tool from HP that can diagnose and fix many printing and scanning problems. You can download it from the HP support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
