Hi @Enviroguru,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Printer Failure" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 often indicates a more complex issue, possibly with the printer's hardware or ink system. Here are some steps to troubleshoot further.

Power Reset:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for at least 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and check if the error clears.

Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts:

  • Open the printer and carefully remove the black ink cartridge.
  • Using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water, gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge.
  • Wait for the cartridge contacts to dry, then reinsert the cartridge.

Inspect the Ink Cartridge and Printhead:

  • Ensure you’re using genuine HP cartridges, as some non-HP cartridges may cause issues.
  • Check the ink levels to confirm they’re full.
  • If you have a removable printhead, try removing and reseating it, as a loose connection can trigger errors.

Run a Printer Reset with Ink Cartridge Removal:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it, and remove all the cartridges.
  • Plug the printer back in, turn it on without the cartridges, then wait for it to prompt you to install the cartridges.
  • Reinstall the cartridges one by one, and see if the error resolves.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure the printer firmware is up-to-date, as newer firmware may help resolve known issues. You can update it via the HP Smart app or HP’s support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
