The blue ink cartridge ran out. Printer would not function with the empty blue cartridge. Ordered ink and put new blue cartridge in and then got the printer failure error. Have turned printer off and unplugged it. Continue to get printer failure error.

Hi @Jean1895,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've encountered a common issue with HP printers, especially after replacing ink cartridges. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the "printer failure" error on your HP Officejet 8610.
- Restart the Printer: You've already done this, but it's worth trying again. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a couple of minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the new blue ink cartridge is properly installed. Open the printer cover and double-check that the cartridge is securely seated in its slot.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, ink residue or dust can accumulate on the cartridge contacts, leading to connection issues. Remove the blue cartridge and gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab dampened with distilled water. Be careful not to touch the nozzles or copper-colored contacts.
- Reset the Printer: Resetting the printer to its factory defaults can sometimes resolve various errors. Look for a reset option in the printer's menu settings or consult the printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Officejet 8610. Updating the firmware can sometimes fix bugs and improve compatibility with new ink cartridges. You can usually update the firmware through the printer's control panel or by downloading the latest firmware from HP's support website and following the instructions for installation.
By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to resolve the "printer failure" error on your HP Officejet 8610.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
