@Kia70, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus is indicating that your brand-new ink cartridge is damaged, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue:

  1. Verify Ink Cartridge Compatibility:

    • Ensure that you are using the correct HP ink cartridge models for the OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus, which include HP 950 and 951 cartridges. Mismatched or incompatible cartridges could cause this issue.
  2. Inspect the Ink Cartridge:

    • Remove the ink cartridge from the printer.
    • Check for any visible damage such as leaks, scratched contacts, or packaging material left on the cartridge.
    • Gently wipe the electrical contacts on the cartridge and in the carriage inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.
  3. Reinstall the Ink Cartridges:

    • Place the cartridge back into its correct slot, ensuring it clicks into place securely.
    • Make sure the cartridges are fully inserted and locked in their respective slots.
  4. Reset the Printer:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  5. Update the Printer Firmware:

    • It's a good practice to keep your printer's firmware up to date for optimal performance and compatibility.
    • Go to the printer's control panel, touch the ePrint icon, and navigate to Settings > Printer Update > Check for Update Now.
  6. Replace the Cartridge:

    • If the problem persists and you have verified that the cartridges are correct and undamaged, the cartridge itself may be defective. Consider replacing it with another new cartridge.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
