@Flowerinthewood, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Once you cancel the subscription,
You can continue printing with Instant Ink supplies until the end of your current billing cycle.
At the end of the billing cycle, you must remove Instant Ink cartridges and purchase Original HP Ink or Toner directly from the retailer of your choice to continue printing. Instant Ink cartridges only work in enrolled printers.
That said, It sounds like you're experiencing a couple of issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 printer. Let's tackle them one by one:
Cartridge Low Warning
If your computer is indicating that the cartridge is low but the printer itself isn't showing any warnings, it might be helpful to:
- Check the Cartridge Status: Open the printer's control panel and navigate to the ink levels section to confirm the status of your cartridges.
- Replace the Cartridge: If the cartridge is indeed low, consider replacing it with a new one. Here's a video tutorial on how to replace the ink cartridges.
Support Icon Not Working
For the issue with the support icon not functioning:
- Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor software glitches. Turn off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Update Firmware: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates on the HP Support page.
- HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can diagnose and fix many common issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

The fact that the Instant Ink Cartridges have a CHIP that prevents you from using them in your printer, AFTER YOU'VE ALREADY PAID AND PURCHASED THEM THRU HP, if you decide to cancel your InstantInk accountl, which is what I did, Is a total VIOLATION of the law.
I have backlog of #8 cartridges that have yet to be used in my printer. That would mean I have to throw those away and go out and buy new HP Cartridges from a retailer THAT DO NOT HAVE THE INSTANT INK CHIP installed, in order tro print on my HP Printer.
This is a violation of freedom and an underhanded way to control the market. In my case today, I needed toprint documnets immediately for tax day reasons so I was forced to re- apply for an Instant Ink account in order to USE MY PRINTER AND THE INK CARTRIDGES I ALREADY OWN.
I have already cointacted my lawyer about this and have retrained services to formulate a brief that can go to our congressman. THis is an UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICE. maybe somewhere, IN ALL YOUR FINE PRINT @ THE iNSTANT iNK PROGRAM, YOU HAVE A STATEMENT TO THE EFFECT THAT THE CARTRIDGES ARE OWNED BY HP AND TO BE RECYCLED, thus cancelling the end usere's ownership.. If so, we will find your sneaky monopolizing system and expose it.
Needless to say, I have asked my staff to throw out the HP Printer and we are purchasing another brand tomorrow. I will be broadcasting this on our podcast and on social media once we have the legal aspects factualized.

@Flowerinthewood, Thank you for your response.
As conveyed, instant ink is a subscription based service, and once you have canceled you will have to remove the instant ink cartridges and replace them with Standard HP ink cartridges for your printer.
