HP ENVY 6455e All-in-One Printer

I have had several HP printers in the past.  I am not buying a new HP printer because I do not want to be held hostage to the way you make us buy printer ink.  One color runs out and you HAVE to buy the other cartridege that was barely used at all and is completely full for the printer to work.  Not doing it.

Hi @lilaB1 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand your frustration. The design of some printers requiring both cartridges to have ink—even when one is full—can feel restrictive and lead to higher costs, especially when you print mostly in black but are forced to replace color cartridges.

Here are a few potential solutions or alternatives to consider:

Check for Single-Cartridge Mode

HP printers support a "single-cartridge mode," allowing them to function with only one cartridge installed. Check your printer's manual or settings to see if this is an option for your HP ENVY 6455e. This might allow you to use just the black cartridge when the color runs out.

Refer to this document: https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c07043346.pdf ( Please do Ctrl+F and search for single and keep hitting enter to change and you will get the details of the single-cartridge mode )

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
