Hi @Kimmymojo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your new ink cartridges from Walmart are not working with your printer, here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges you purchased are compatible with your specific printer model. Verify the cartridge model number against the printer’s manual or manufacturer’s website.

2. Install Cartridges Correctly:

  • Turn on the printer and open the cartridge access door. Remove the cartridges and check for any protective tape or packaging that might still be on them.
  • Reinstall the cartridges, ensuring they are properly seated in their slots.

3. Check for Protective Tape:

  • New cartridges often come with protective tape or plastic covers over the print heads. Ensure that you have removed all of these before installation.

4. Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water and gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer to ensure they are clean and free from debris.

5. Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 30 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the issue is resolved.

6. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Sometimes, printers may require a firmware update to recognize new cartridges. Check the manufacturer’s website for any available firmware updates for your printer model.

7. Check Cartridge Status:

  • Go to your printer’s control panel or printer software on your computer to check the status of the cartridges. It might provide error messages or status information.

8. Use Printer Utilities:

  • Use the printer’s built-in diagnostic tools or utilities available through your computer’s printer settings to check for any issues with the cartridges.

9. Try a Different Cartridg:

  • If possible, test with another cartridge to see if the issue is with a specific cartridge or if it’s a more general issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
