HP ENVY Photo 6234 All-in-One Printer

My printer displays the message "The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer".

As instructed by the trouble shooting advice I have cleared all the cartridge contacts and changed the colour cartridge.  I cannot change the black as I have no spare unless HP Instant Ink send me one.

I have only ever used HP Instant Ink cartridges in this printer.

Hi @Rich2849,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message "The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer" on your HP ENVY Photo 6234 All-In-One Printer typically indicates an issue with the ink cartridges. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this problem.

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Make sure that the ink cartridges are correctly installed in their respective slots. Ensure that they are securely seated and properly snapped into place.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Sometimes, dust or ink residue can accumulate on the cartridge contacts, preventing communication with the printer. Turn off the printer, remove the cartridges, and gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for a minute or two, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve communication issues.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-HP cartridges or refilled cartridges may not be recognized by the printer and can lead to communication errors.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve cartridge communication issues.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • If the issue persists, try performing a hard reset. To do this, turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, and wait for a few minutes. Then, reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Replace the Ink Cartridges:

  • If none of the above steps work, it's possible that one or both of your ink cartridges are faulty or expired. Try replacing the cartridges with new, genuine HP cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
