Hi @EG707
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is not printing from the black XL cartridge despite replacing it and performing cleaning, alignment, and rebooting, there are a few additional steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check the Ink Cartridge
Even though you've replaced the cartridge, it's important to ensure the replacement cartridge is actually functioning correctly.
- Ensure Proper Installation: Double-check that the black ink cartridge is securely installed. Remove it, and then reinsert it to make sure it's seated properly.
- Inspect for Protective Tape: Sometimes, a new ink cartridge might still have a protective tape covering the ink nozzles. Ensure that all protective plastic or tape has been removed from the cartridge before installation.
2. Perform a Cartridge Cleaning (Using Printer Settings)
Your printer might not be able to print black because the ink nozzles are clogged. Many HP printers allow you to perform a deep cleaning process through the printer settings.
- How to Clean the Cartridges:
- Go to Printers & Scanners in System Preferences on your computer.
- Select your printer, then click Options & Supplies.
- Click on the Utility tab, and select Print Head Cleaning (or Cartridge Cleaning, depending on your model).
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
You can repeat this cleaning process up to 2-3 times to clear any blockages.
3. Check Ink Levels and Compatibility
If you’re using a third-party or non-HP ink cartridge, Sometimes third-party cartridges can cause issues like not printing certain colors. Check the ink levels in the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel to ensure there’s enough ink in the black cartridge. We recommend using HP cartridges only.
4. Print a Test Page
Print a test page from your printer to see if the black ink is working. You can print a diagnostic page from your printer’s control panel (check your user manual for instructions). This can help you identify whether it’s a hardware or software issue.
I hope this helps.
