Hi @WolffGirl,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 not printing black ink after installing a new cartridge, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Verify Cartridge Installation
- Ensure the black ink cartridge is seated properly in its slot.
- Remove and reinsert the cartridge to confirm it is clicked securely into place.
- Make sure the protective tape on the cartridge has been removed.
2. Check Cartridge Authenticity
- Verify that the black ink cartridge is a genuine HP cartridge compatible with the OfficeJet Pro 8035.
- Third-party or counterfeit cartridges may not work correctly with your printer.
3. Perform a Printhead Cleaning
- On your printer’s control panel or through the HP Smart app on your macOS:
- Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance.
- Select Clean Printhead.
- Perform up to three cleaning cycles if needed.
- Test print after each cleaning cycle.
4. Check Ink Levels
- Open the HP Smart app or the printer’s settings to view the ink levels.
- If the black ink cartridge shows low or empty, there might be an issue with the cartridge. Consider replacing it.
5. Run a Diagnostic Print
- Access the printer’s Reports or Settings menu.
- Print a Quality Diagnostic Page or Print Quality Report.
- If black does not appear, the printhead may be clogged or damaged.
6. Align the Printer
- From the HP Smart app or printer control panel, select Printer Maintenance > Align Printer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment.
7. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer firmware is up to date:
- Visit HP Customer Support and search for firmware updates for the OfficeJet Pro 8035.
- Follow the instructions to install updates.
8. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord and wait for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
9. Check for Printhead Issues
- If cleaning and alignment don’t resolve the issue:
- Remove the printhead (if accessible) and clean the electrical contacts gently with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
- If the issue persists, the printhead may need replacement or servicing.
