HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e All-in-One Printer
macOS 15.0 Sequoia

My printer is not printing colour correctly.  Ink cartridges are genuine HP, they're newly installed and I've cleaned printheads and done the printing tests and it's still not printing colours correctly.

What else can I do?

The printer worked fine about 1-1/2 months ago. When I say colours are not printing correctly - green prints yellow and blue prints pink.

Thanks in advance and looking forward to somebody's reply

Hi @Simpleward,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e All-in-One Printer suddenly starts printing incorrect colors especially when green turns yellow and blue turns pink, even with genuine HP cartridges and clean printheads. Let’s walk through the most effective steps to fix this issue on macOS 15 Sequoia.

Fix: Incorrect Color Printing on HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e

1. Run All Three Levels of Printhead Cleaning

Even if you've already cleaned the printhead once, HP recommends running up to three cleaning cycles:

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
    • Run the cleaning and print the test page.
    • If colors are still wrong, repeat the cleaning two more times.
    • Wait 30 minutes before repeating all three levels if needed.

2. Check Ink Cartridge Vents

Sometimes the cartridge vents get clogged, affecting ink flow:

  • Remove the cartridges and inspect the vent area (small circular holes).
  • Clean gently with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert cartridges firmly.

3. Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause color mapping issues.

  • Choose macOS 15 Sequoia if not auto-detected.
  • Install the firmware and restart the printer.

4. Use HP App or HP Utility

macOS sometimes misinterprets color profiles. Use HP’s tools to bypass this:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi VikramTheGreat

I have tried all of these and searched the web for similar issues. I've used a slightly damp kitchen towel to clean the printhead, but still to no avail. Unfortunately, it looks like I may need to replace the printhead.

It's not just the colour that's incorrect, it's also not printing the full squares on the page after printing any of the 3 print head cleaning cycles.

What is your view on this?

Many thanks

Simon
