I canceled my InsaInk subscription and now I can't get my printer to print with new ink cartridges even though it did recently.

Hi @Wendy211.,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer stopped printing after canceling Instant Ink, even though you installed new, regular cartridges. Let’s go through a few quick checks to see what might be blocking the printer.

Make sure the Instant Ink cartridges are removed

Instant Ink cartridges stop working as soon as the subscription is canceled.

Confirm you only have standard store-bought HP cartridges installed.

Check the Printer Display for Supply Errors

Look for any message like “Cartridge Problem,” “Incompatible,” “Protected Cartridge,” or “Instant Ink Required.”

Let me know what the printer shows, if anything.

Remove and Reinstall the Cartridges

Take out all cartridges.

Wipe the copper contacts gently with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Reinsert them firmly until they click.

Power Reset the Printer

Keep the printer ON.

Unplug the power cable from the back.

Wait 60 seconds.

Plug directly into a wall outlet (no surge protector) and turn it back on.

Check if Cartridge Protection Is Turned On
Sometimes Instant Ink turns on Cartridge Protection.

On the printer’s display, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Cartridge Protection.

Make sure it is Off.

Update the Firmware
If the printer is blocking non-Instant Ink cartridges, a firmware refresh may help.

Connect to Wi-Fi.

Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.

Try Printing a Test Page from the Printer Itself

Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report.

If this prints, but the computer won’t—then the issue is with the PC, not the ink.

I hope this helps.
