Hello,

After installing a new color cartridge, the printer is not recognizing it and keeps giving me an error. I tried cleaning the cartridge contact point with the slot in the printer, but it doesn't change anything. When I run the software to find and fix issues, it says there are none. The only visible error at the starting time is "cartridge problem". Any ideas on what to do? I definitely installed the right cartridge, and I even printed the test page with no issues at all.

Hi @MalaMarina

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that your HP printer isn't recognizing new ink cartridges, here are some steps you can try.

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure the cartridges are the correct model for your printer.
  • Inspect Cartridges: Make sure the protective tape or plastic is completely removed from the cartridges.
  • Clean Contacts: You mentioned cleaning the contacts, but make sure you do it carefully using a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol to remove any residue.
  • Reset the Printer: Power off the printer, unplug it for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Reinstall Cartridges: Remove the cartridges again and reinstall them, ensuring they click into place securely.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer that might resolve compatibility issues.
  • Try a Different Cartridge: If possible, test with another set of cartridges to rule out a defect.

Hopefully, one of these solutions will help get your printer working again!

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
