Hi @Dan781,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding cartridge incompatibility in the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Reset the Printer:

  • If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.
  • Turn off the printer using the power button. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Update Firmware:

  • HP regularly releases new printer firmware versions with enhancements or fixes. It's important to ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can follow instructions at Update the firmware on an HP printer to update your printer's firmware.

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Remove the cartridges and reinstall them to ensure they are correctly seated in the carriage.
  • For type A cartridges, make sure the label on the cartridge matches the label on the carriage. Adjust the tab if needed, and ensure the cartridge is firmly in place.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Open the cartridge access area and remove the cartridge indicated in the error message.
  • Clean the copper-colored contact on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth.
  • Clean the electrical contact inside the printer's printhead with a lint-free cloth.

Check Printer Enrollment:

  • Verify that your printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink or HP All-In Plan for Print, as Instant Ink cartridges can only be used in enrolled printers.
  • Sign into your Instant Ink account and check the printer status under Overview or Printers.

Check Internet Connection:

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the Internet, as printers enrolled in Instant Ink require an active connection for Web Services.

I hope this helps.
