Printer not recognizing new ink cartridge, returned it thinking it was defective. New one worked great for a bit - now starting same crap again. I am using genuine HP products. I have gone thru every fix there is. Shutting off, unplugging,   cleaning, taking off and putting back in.   Decided to try and clean my print heads but it won't do it because it says "its busy " even though I have cancelled the print job.  At a loss here. Its only doing it on the magenta.

@JULIEPP, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I totally get how frustrating this must be. You’re doing all the right things, and it’s super annoying when your printer doesn’t return the favor. Let’s see if we can get that magenta behaving again!

Here’s a quick checklist and a couple of deeper dives that might help:

First, the Basics (which you’ve mostly done like a pro):

  • ✔️ Power cycle the printer (unplug for 60 seconds, then plug back in)
  • ✔️ Remove and reseat the magenta cartridge
  • ✔️ Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth
  • ✔️ Cancel all print jobs and restart the printer

Now, Let’s Try a Few Extra Steps:

Reset the Printer

Sometimes a full reset can clear out ghost errors:

  • Unplug the printer while it’s on
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Plug it back in and turn it on

Check for Firmware Updates

Outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues:

A Few More Thoughts:

  • Since it’s only the magenta, it could be a faulty cartridge batch, even genuine ones can have duds.
  • If your printer has a removable printhead, it might be worth checking for clogs or damage there too.

If none of this works, we suggest you visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
