@JPTConsulting wrote:I had the same problem out of the blue with our HP3100. I tried the tip about scanning the test page but the problem continued. Then since you noted that the problem only seems to occur when changing one of the cartridge, I changed the color cartridge too, turned power on/off, scanned the new test page, did a rain dance, uttered a mantra and it seems to have solve the problem. Thanks to those who helped with this problem. I'm new to this forum...question: why aren't the experts from HP helping with these problems??
I have responded at least a dozen times in this thread, after repeating the same thing over and over and having it not read I may get tired of the same questions repeated.
In general it is probably not best to post on the end of a very long running thread if you have a different issue than has already been addressed. It is especially not best to post if your situation has already been asked and answered in the thread....
Most of the folks here are (like me) volunteers here posting on their own time without compensation.

Printer test page? Are they kidding. It's all about the ink. How many millions/billions of pages are printed with this nonsense? How many trees?
A good answer would be a list of all in one printers and printers that don't have an automatic print page "FEATURE". I'm going to buy an all in one printer to replace my trusty HP PSC 1400 series.

All I can say about the problem of my printer always printing a " test" page each time I turn it on is that it DID NOT USED TO DO THIS. Nothing else changed, suddenly it started acting up. It is a waste of paper and ink, and very frustrating. So far there have been no suggestions for fixing it that work......Pat

As mentioned a dozen or more times already in this thread the page is not a test page, it is an alignment page. The alignment page is printed when a cartridge is replaced, and it will be repeated at power on if the alignment is not completed or if it fails. The alignment page is used to calibrate the alignment for optimal print quality, and it also is used to set the optimal operating energy for the printheads.
The alignment process for some lower end printer models has a manual component. For your PSC 1400 series you will need to complete the alignment as described in the document here. Once the alignment process has completed the page will not print again until a cartrdige is removed and replaced.

Ok, trying to follow instructions to stop test page from printing. Putting test page on C3100 scanner, then pressing :
"Start Scan/Reprint" nothing happens. Ive tried all of the other bottons too. nothing seems to stop this test page from printing. Do I need additional software to make the scan happen? please advise. Usually go elsewhere to print because of this problem.

I've been having this issue for several months now. I have a HP C3100.
Every time I turn on the device, it prints out an ink test page.
I've tried scanning the page, as mentioned earlier in the thread. No luck. I hit the scan button and nothing happens. I do it "immediately after the test page prints.
I've also looked for any settings or preferences that may apply to this issue, but there are none.
I really don't want to leave the printer on day and night.
Anyone have any other solutions?

This was the exact problem that I have been having for months.
Recently put in a brand new black ink cartridge, did the first print/scan test page, same as everyother time in the last few years. This time it just wouldn't take it, a lot of the time it wouldn't recognize the test page being on the scanner. After repeatedly trying to make it work, checked out this forum. Tried a few of the suggestions. I'm not sure exactly what fixed it, but something worked. I was also having a problem with the chosen printer being grayed out in the control panel.
Steps I took:
Restart computer and printer, respectively.
Unplug USB, restart printer.
Cleaned off contact points between ink and printer, with damp q-tip.
Restarted printer, scanned allignment page. Still grayed out and wouldn't print document.
Opened control panel, right clicked printer, opened printer properties. Port Tab, clicked the correct port. Sharing Tab, unchecked share this printer. Clicked OK. Back at the control panel printer is no longer grayed out. Was able to print document no more trouble.
Maybe it will help someone that reads through all the posts. Hope it does. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Forgot to mention that I have an HPDeskjet3510

My problem is different than most of the posts I've seen here. I'm hoping you can help.
I have a HP Lazerjet 1200se, that I have used successfully for a number of years.
As I now changed from Windows XP to Windows 7 I now have the same problem described in many of the posts on this forum.
It is only a Lazerjet, and not a scanner, but every time the computer reboots it prints this page that describes "all the things you can do with the Lazerjet 1200.
It's annoying and wasting ink. I've tried to find settings that might fix this to no avail.
Can you advise? Thank you in advance!
