My printer prints double and cuts the letters up. It also has a line across the page when I scan. I tried to call customer service and the person I spoke with was rude and didn't help at all. I am very upset. I have had this printer less than a year. He said it was going to cost $99 to send a technician. I would think HP would stand behind a printer they sold to a school for an adult to use (not used by students at all). I  have so much ink for this printer and can't use it at all. The printer is useless. I tried aligning the cartridges and all the self-help tools. Please help me!! I am so upset.

Hi @ncallahan85

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience with both the printer and customer service—especially when you're trying to get your printer working properly. It sounds frustrating, especially with the issues you're facing on both printing and scanning.

Let's walk through some troubleshooting steps that might help resolve the issues of double printing, misaligned letters, and lines on scanned documents. These could be related to either a hardware issue or something that could be fixed with a simple reset or cleaning.

1. Check the Ink Cartridges and Printhead

  • Misalignment and distorted printing can sometimes be caused by poor ink flow. Make sure the ink cartridges are properly installed and seated.
  • Check for any clogs in the printhead. You can run a cleaning cycle on your printer (either from the printer's control panel or through the printer software on your computer).
  • Make sure the ink cartridges are not expired or leaking, and are the correct cartridges for your printer.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes, a simple reset can fix printer problems:

  • Unplug the printer from the power outlet for about 30 seconds.
  • While it's unplugged, check for any paper jams or obstructions in the paper path.
  • Plug the printer back in and power it on.
  • Try printing again to see if the issue persists.

3. Check the Paper Settings and Paper Tray

  • If your printer is printing double or cutting off letters, it could be related to incorrect paper size or settings. Make sure you're using the correct paper type and size.
  • Verify that the paper tray is aligned properly and not overfilled or jammed.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

Sometimes the issue could be with the printer drivers:

  • Go to the HP support page and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Uninstall any previous drivers from your computer and reinstall the new ones.
  • Try printing again to see if this helps.

5. Check for Any Software Conflicts

If you’re using third-party printing software, check if it's causing any issues by printing directly from the HP software or native system tools.

6. Scan Issues - Clean the Scanner Glass

  • A line across the scanned page could be a sign of dirt or residue on the scanner glass. Carefully clean the glass with a soft cloth and some water or glass cleaner.
  • Ensure that the scanner lid is closing properly and there are no obstructions.

7. Try a Test Print

Run a test page or print a document from the computer to see if the double printing issue is related to a specific file or program.

  • If the test page looks fine, the issue might be with how the documents are being sent to the printer from your computer.
  • If the test page still shows problems (like double printing), it’s likely a hardware issue that may require more attention.

8. Check for Firmware Updates

Some printers may experience bugs that are fixed through firmware updates. Check the printer’s menu or HP’s support website for any available firmware updates and apply them.

I hope this helps.
