I understand you're getting a "cartridge depleted" message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 despite using a new HP 962XL cartridge, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

 

  • Check the Protective Tape: Make sure you've removed the protective tape or plastic cover from the new cartridge. Sometimes, leftover tape can cause the printer to not detect the cartridge properly.
  • Reseat the Cartridge: Remove the cartridge, then carefully reinstall it. Ensure it's seated properly in the cartridge slot and is making a solid connection.
  • Reset the Printer: Power off the printer, wait for 60 seconds, and then power it back on. This can sometimes resolve detection issues with new cartridges.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: If the contacts on the cartridge or the cartridge slot are dirty, the printer might not be able to recognize the new cartridge. Gently clean both the cartridge contacts and the corresponding contacts inside the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Check the Ink Level Status: Sometimes the printer may show a message incorrectly. You can check the ink levels through the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel to verify if it’s actually full.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date, as an outdated firmware can sometimes cause incorrect cartridge readings. You can update it through the printer's settings menu or via the HP Smart app.
  • Try Another New Cartridge: If possible, try using another new 962XL cartridge to see if the issue persists. This helps determine if the issue lies with the cartridge or the printer.
